As someone who once let their home fall into disarray, I truly feel this deeply. I remember back then, I would ignore broken things, turn a blind eye to moldy cabinets, until one day it became unbearable and I realized the problems had become overwhelming. Later, after learning my lesson, I developed a monthly maintenance plan and stuck to it for over a year, with amazing results. Safety Check

When it comes to home maintenance, safety is naturally the most important issue. Every first weekend of the month, I spend 15 minutes specifically checking the safety equipment in my home. These 15 minutes are truly an invaluable investment.

Speaking of home system maintenance, air conditioning is perhaps the most troublesome. After much trouble, I discovered the filter was too dirty, seriously reducing its cooling effectiveness. That stuffy night, tossing and turning in bed unable to sleep, remains vivid in my memory.

Later I checked the data and found that a small leak can waste up to 90 liters of water daily. This number is shocking, as 90 liters is about half a bathtub's volume.

Water heater maintenance shouldn't be neglected either. I check the water pressure and temperature settings every three months. If the water pressure is unstable or temperature fluctuates, it's likely due to scale buildup. At this point, it's advisable to have professional maintenance personnel clean the scale, which not only improves the water heater's efficiency but also extends its lifespan.

Daily Maintenance

The kitchen is definitely the area requiring the most frequent attention at home, as it's used daily and easily accumulates grease and bacteria. I've now developed the habit of wiping down the stove and countertops with warm water after each cooking session. Although this takes a little time every day, it's much easier than cleaning accumulated grease later.

The range hood cleaning deserves special mention. I didn't realize how frequently range hoods needed cleaning until I noticed a significant decrease in suction power one day, and upon checking, found the grease filter was almost completely clogged. Now I remove and clean the grease filter with hot water and detergent every two weeks, which not only maintains strong suction but also prevents oil leakage issues.

Refrigerator maintenance is also important. I now deep clean the refrigerator every three months. First, remove all food items, dispose of anything spoiled, then wipe down every corner of the interior with warm water. Pay special attention to the cooling coils behind the refrigerator, which many people overlook. Dust accumulation on the cooling coils seriously affects the refrigerator's cooling efficiency; cleaning them not only extends the refrigerator's life but can save about 5% on electricity bills.

Cabinet maintenance shouldn't be neglected either. I thoroughly clean the cabinets monthly, checking for mold or wood-boring insects. Especially during the rainy season, it's essential to ensure cabinet ventilation, and you can place some desiccant packets to prevent moisture.

Bathroom cleaning requires the most technique. I've found white vinegar particularly effective for cleaning showerheads. Just fill a plastic bag with white vinegar, secure it around the showerhead with a rubber band overnight, and the water flow will be much smoother the next day. This works because vinegar effectively dissolves mineral buildup in the showerhead.

Toilet cleaning also has its tricks. Besides regular scrubbing, I clean the toilet tank with bleach weekly. Many people don't know that bacteria can grow in the toilet tank; regular cleaning prevents odors and protects tank components from corrosion.

Money-Saving Tips

When it comes to home maintenance, saving money is naturally a concern for all of us. I have a particularly useful tip: checking door and window seals. The method is simple - slide a piece of paper under the door gap. If the paper moves easily, the gap is too large and needs a door bottom seal installed. This small modification might seem insignificant, but according to professional organizations, sealing door and window gaps can reduce heating and cooling costs by 30%, which is quite significant.

Window maintenance can also save us considerable money. I regularly check whether window seals have aged or come loose. If problems are found, promptly replacing the seals not only prevents cold air leakage but also blocks outside noise. Especially in summer and winter, good door and window sealing can save us significant air conditioning costs.

Lighting system energy efficiency is also important. I've replaced all regular bulbs in my home with LED energy-saving lights. Although the initial investment is higher, LED lights last several times longer than regular bulbs and consume only about a quarter of the electricity. According to my calculations, this investment pays for itself within a year.

Another money-saving trick is regularly cleaning the heat dissipation areas of electronic devices. This includes ventilation holes behind TVs, computer fans, etc. Keeping these areas clean can improve device cooling efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and extend service life.
